Come ride with us in 2026!

The 2026 fall season starts in August!
We had a fantastic 2026 spring season with practices, races and group rides. We wrapped it all up with a fun ride in the woods and a potluck dinner at Staunton's Montgomery Hall Park. We're taking a break for a couple of months before the fall racing season.
If you have a young mountain biker in the family who wants to race or just improve their skills, click the Join our Team button above (if your child was on the team during the spring season, your team membership will carry through to the fall — no need to click the button).

- Elementary, middle or high school—boys and girls—all welcome!
- You'll learn key mountain biking skills!
- You'll ride your bike on trails and in the woods with other kids at practices and on fun adventure rides!
- You'll build up your mountain-biking strength, endurance and proficiency!
- You can compete in races—but only if you want to!
2026 is our ninth year!
SAW Composite has been getting local kids involved in mountain biking since 2017. Our focus is to provide kids with the option (and training) to race competitively, ride mountain bikes for fun and adventure, and engage in a healthy afterschool activity with their peers. Please note that competing in races is not required in order to join our team.
We are a member club of the Virginia High School Cycling League, itself a Project League of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Our coaches are unpaid volunteers who are NICA-licensed and NICA-trained. As NICA coaches we’re guided by values of fun, inclusivity, respect and community. We build strong minds, bodies, character and communities through cycling.

The SAW Composite team was back on the podium during the VAHS Spring 2026 season! Note: in the photo on the bottom right, our first-place rider is wearing the leader jersey over his SAW Composite jersey.
How to join
- There’s no membership fee to join SAW Composite. However, if you want to compete, fees are required to register for the VAHS and NICA races series.

- Select either Individual Membership ($35) or Family Membership ($50)

When and Where
Practices: We hold evening practices twice a week on Wednesdays at Montgomery Hall Park in Staunton and Fridays at Sunset Park in Waynesboro.
During practice you'll work on drills to improve your bike-handling skills, and you'll ride the trails in the park to put your skills to work and build up your strength and endurance.

Races: Races are held on Saturdays, with riders of different age groups and abilities racing at different times throughout the day. We participate in the spring VAHS racing season (four races) and the fall NICA season (four races).
In the 2026 spring season, SAW Composite fielded a team of thirteen amazing young riders who pedaled their mountain bikes over roots and rocks and up and down challenging hills. They splashed across water-filled creeks and leaned around ridiculously sharp corners before blasting furiously across the finish line to the enthusiastic cheers of their teammates.
The fall NICA races are open to fifth graders and middle and high school youths, while the spring VAHS races are also open to lower elementary school youths. The fall season starts in September. You can view the full schedule here: NICA 2026 Fall Racing Schedule.
The races are fun and exciting events with hundreds of riders from teams all over Virginia — and sometimes beyond! Come ride with us!
